Columbia University Irving Medical Center's Department of Physiology and Cellular Biophysics invites applicants for senior-level research positions. Candidates should have strong scientific and postdoctoral experience. Responsibilities will include running a vibrant research program, mentoring graduate students and postdocs, creating high-quality presentations, communicating with internal and external collaborators, and active participation in the department's programs and activities. The Associate Research Scientist may oversee the work of more junior research staff and may direct the implementation of laboratory processes/protocols.
The Department of Physiology and Cellular Biophysics is a vibrant, growing department that seeks to provide the most exciting environment for cutting-edge science. The faculty includes a Nobel Laureate. The Department also includes five members of the National Academy of Sciences, four members of the National Academy of Medicine, and four members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. There are several major areas of focus in the Department: membrane proteins and ion channels biology, cardiovascular biology, structural biology, endocrinology, metabolism, and pulmonary and bone biology. Through the Ph.D. graduate program and postdoctoral training, the faculty provides a rich environment for outstanding candidates. Faculty in the Department are most proud of recent successes in our ongoing efforts to learn about and eventually overcome diseases that afflict millions of patients, including advances in understanding the molecular basis of schizophrenia, genetic characterizations of osteoblast-induced leukemias, viral infections, and new treatments for heart disease including coronary artery stent restenosis, heart failure, and cardiac arrhythmias.
Minimum Degree Required: PhD
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or MD, plus 2 to 3 years of postdoctoral research experience

Hiring Salary Range: $77,000 - $85,000
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited todepartmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
